Today we hosted a display at the annual RAF Fylingdales families open day some good comments were passed. Good day all round.

October
Sunday 4th
5th Skipton Scout Group Centenary Celebrations. We are putting on a large display in there HQ.

Friday 16th - Saturday 18th
Pickering War weekend, our largest annual event and added bonus of the Thane Rover Crew who are coming back for the second year to demonstrate traditional scouting skills in a recreated wartime camp. It's a super atmosphere all weekend. On the Saturday morning we will be having a contingent of 1940s dressed Boy Scouts in the parade through the town.

2016
We will be returning to Ryedale Folk Museum where we will be taking over their costume gallery for a display on Scouting through the ages. Check back for dates!

Archives Reform and Update

Earlier this year it was decided that now the archives is starting to 'get its self known' we would conduct a complete reform and update, the first thing we did was to re-brand the Archive so after many a hour thinking up of a name we went for Scouting Yesteryear's Archive as that pretty much sums us up! this is the only change happening presently, the next step is to produce a more professional portal display setup this will enable us to travel round local shows and events also visit Scout Groups. please keep checking back to see our progress. thank you for your continued Support.

Archive Name Tapes

The New Archive Name Tapes arrived today, these tapes will be sewn into the collars of the uniform we have in the collection and any items on loan e.g Hats, Neckerchiefs or flags.

Restoration Work

Just completed a bit of Restoration work on this early felt Rover Scout Epaulette, a little bit more time to be spent on them and it will be as good as new.

Camp fire Blanket

This Camp Fire Blanket is being created as part of a proposed exhibition of Camp Fire Blankets through time, this one is a 1940s/50s/60s style and tells a story of a scouts life through the stages of Scouting going from Wolf Cubs though to Rover Scouts. The style of Camp Fire Blanket has change throughout the years where as now we usually have a throw over your head blanket, in years gone by they were works of art. As you can see this one has my woodcraft sign on it and tells the story of my life through scouting, I have tried to get the 1940s equivalent badges to what I earned when I was a youth member in the 2000s. Watch this space for the completed blanket and a first look at a very special and very limited edition badge set.
